Welcome to Troop 27
Welcome to Boy Scout Troop 27, part of the Middle Tennessee Council! We are a Scout-led troop that offers weekly meetings, monthly campouts, summer and winter camps, service opportunities, and many other adventures throughout the year.
Troop Meetings
Troop 27 typically meets every Monday from 6:00–7:30 p.m. Our meetings are usually held at the College Grove Recreation Center or at a nearby farm.
Our meetings give Scouts opportunities to work on Scouting skills, prepare for upcoming activities, learn new things, and spend time with fellow Scouts.
Occasionally, we hold Patrol Leaders’ Council (PLC) meetings. PLC meetings are attended by the troop’s youth leaders, who work together to plan future meetings, campouts, activities, and other troop events.
Troop meetings are generally not held on major holidays.
Monthly Campouts
Troop 27 typically has a campout every month. Campouts are a great way for Scouts to put their skills into practice while enjoying the outdoors and building friendships.
Depending on the trip, we may go backpacking, island camping, river camping, hiking, or participate in many other outdoor adventures.
Most campouts begin on Friday afternoon or evening. Scouts typically carpool to the campsite and spend the weekend camping. We usually pack up and head home on Sunday, arriving back at our pickup location around lunchtime, depending on the distance and activities of the trip.
Summer and Winter Camps
Troop 27 participates in two major camps each year: summer camp and winter camp.
Summer Camp
Summer camp is typically about one week long and gives Scouts the opportunity to earn merit badges, develop Scouting skills, hike, swim, participate in outdoor activities, and experience everything that summer camp has to offer.
Every other year, Troop 27 typically attends a summer camp outside of the Middle Tennessee Council, giving Scouts the opportunity to experience different camps and new adventures.
Winter Camp
Winter camp is a three-day camp experience held during winter break. It provides Scouts with another opportunity to learn new skills, earn merit badges, and enjoy the outdoors during the winter.
High Adventure
When enough Scouts are interested and eligible, Troop 27 may put together a crew to attend a High Adventure program.
High Adventure opportunities can include:
Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico
Sea Base in Florida and the Caribbean
Northern Tier in Minnesota and Canada
The Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia
These programs offer some of the most challenging and memorable experiences in Scouting. Many High Adventure programs have minimum age and experience requirements, and participants generally need to be 14 or older. Requirements vary by program.
Service and Other Activities
Scouting is about more than camping and outdoor adventure. Troop 27 also looks for opportunities to serve our community and help others.
Throughout the year, Scouts may participate in Merit Badge Universities, food-bank projects, community service projects, special activities, and other Scouting events.
